The Business Department specializes in counseling clients on all aspects of federal and state taxation. Robert A. Mallek, Jr., has been certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization in the area of tax law for more than 25 years and Vreeland O. Jones is Past Chair of the Tax Advisory Committee, California State Bar, and Board of Legal Specialization. The areas of taxation in which particular expertise is provided to clients are federal and state corporate and partnership tax law, transfer tax law (including estate, gift and generation skipping tax), state real property tax law, and state sales and use tax law. Members of the firm are licensed to practice before the United States Tax Court, the United States District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Fresno County Superior Court, the California Fifth District Court of Appeals, and the California Supreme Court for purposes of handling all disputed tax matters with any federal or state tax agency. Members of the firm also have significant experience in representing clients in negotiations with the Internal Revenue Service, the California State Franchise Tax Board and the California State Board of Equalization.

While the Business Department does not engage in the preparation of federal or state tax returns, we maintain excellent business and personal relations with numerous small and large accounting firms in the Central Valley for purposes of coordinating the preparation and filing of such returns for our clients.
